Flow Computer S600+ Configuration: Design & Development

The flow computer is the cash register of an oil & gas facility. On custody transfer metering systems, the S600+ flow computer takes raw pulses, pressures, and temperatures and turns them into the fiscal quantities both parties settle on. Configuring it correctly — and modifying that configuration safely later — is one of ATAS's specialist services.

Configuration design before keystrokes

Every S600+ job starts with a configuration design document: stream definitions, meter types (turbine, ultrasonic, orifice, Coriolis), calculation standards (such as AGA and ISO flow calculation standards, and API MPMS volume correction), densitometer and analyser inputs, and the totaliser structure. Agreeing this on paper first means the configuration in the machine has a reference that witnesses and auditors can check against.

What we configure

  • Stream and station setup, with live/calculated value mapping for every input.
  • Flow calculation selection and constants, matched to the metering philosophy.
  • Prover and master-meter proving sequences, with K-factor and meter factor handling.
  • Alarm limits, audit trail, and security levels for metering integrity.
  • Custody transfer reports — hourly, daily, batch — formatted to the client's template.
  • Communications: Modbus maps to SCADA, supervisory computers, and third-party systems.

Configuration modification without surprises

Much of our S600+ work is modification: a new meter run, a revised calculation standard, a changed report, an expanded Modbus map. We treat the live configuration as a controlled item — download the current file, apply and test changes offline where possible, document every changed cell, and re-verify totalisation and reports after loading. The audit log should tell a clean story.

Verification and witness testing

Before a configuration goes into custody transfer service, we verify calculations against an independent reference, simulate inputs across the operating envelope, and support witnessed acceptance with the client and, where required, the authority having jurisdiction.

From a brand-new metering skid to a single Modbus map change on a live S600+, we handle flow computer configuration and configuration modification end to end. Discuss your metering system with us.
